We determined that ATI set a new standard in the mainstream discrete graphics card market by providing a lot - be it 2D or 3D - for not very much, with the launch of the Radeon HD 4670 back in September 2008.

Since then, we've seen a number of customised derivatives - including one from Sapphire itself - and the Hong Kong-based manufacturer is back again with another new edition dubbed rather basically the HD 4670 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E New Edition.

What's new is a custom Accelero L7 cooler that's developed by Arctic Cooling exclusively for Sapphire. If it looks familiar, it's probably because you've seen it before on Sapphire's recently-launched new-and-improved Radeon HD 4770.

The cooler is said to feature an "optimised heatsink" with pre-applied thermal compound ARCTIC MX-2. Sapphire tells us it "gives a perfect conjunction between the core and the heatsink that reinforces the overall cooling performance". Helping dissipate the heat is a 92mm PWM fan housed in a patented holder with a low-noise impeller and a friction-reducing fluid dynamic bearing. That'll deliver high airflow while keeping noise levels down to 0.4 sone at full load.

Aside from the re-jigged cooling, the card's a familiar affair - its core is clocked at 750MHz, and the trio of VGA, HDMI and DVI connectivity options remain. There's no word on pricing or availability yet, but we'd expect to see the card arrive sooner rather than later, priced at around Ā£60.
