If you're hankering for a 17in notebook, it might be worth taking a look at Dell's latest.

The Inspiron 17, now available in the UK following a US launch earlier this month, features a 17.3in TFT display that offers a decent 1,600x900 resolution.

Dell's base configuration - priced at just £369 - features a 2.2GHz Intel Celeron processor, Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, 1GB of RAM and 160GB of storage.

Those in need of a little more grunt can start with a £599 system that ups the ante with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, 500GB of storage and a 256MB discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics card.

A six-cell battery is included as standard, as is Wireless G connectivity and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. A nine-cell battery, Wireless N connectivity, Bluetooth, and a Blu-ray optical drive are all available as extras, and Dell expects to offer an optional Full-HD 1080p display in October. No mention of any SSD upgrades yet, though. Still, not a bad asking price for a big-screen notebook, we reckon.

For me, screen resolution is more important than actual screen size, so I'd be disappointed not to get 1080p with a 17“ screen. I'd be very happy to get that resolution on a 15” screen though.
When are we going to get higher resolutions appearing on desktop replacement laptops with 19" screens? We seem stuck on 1920x1200 as the max resolution :(

I'm a pixel junkie :D
Dell are a bit rubbish with resolution choices these days, they used to offer a fantastic range of displays for all their models, but they're quite limited now.
I've never been a fan of Dell Laptops/Notebooks, but for £369 a 17.3" screen and a decent enough spec for internet browsing and media, it's not a half bad price.
