You'll have to take this one with a pinch of salt, but web blog macles.blogspot.com is reporting that Acer is preparing an all-new netbook dubbed the Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T.

Given the Timeline nomenclature, you'd assume the system to be an ultra-thin, ultra-light notebook similar to the recently-reviewed Timeline 5810T.

That's anything but the case, however, as the Timeline 1810T sports a chassis similar to the Acer Aspire One and fits in perfectly to the netbook form factor.

The system sports an 11.6in display, offering a 1,366x768 resolution, and a number of familiar netbook traits - including Wireless N and Ethernet connectivity, as well as optional Bluetooth.

What's changed is at the heart of the system. Rather than continue with the Intel Atom trend, the Timeline 1810T is said to be housing a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Solo ULV SU3500 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and Intel's GS45 chipset. That'll mean integrated GMA4500MHD graphics, complete with the ability to decode HD media, and HDMI out.

Sounds good, and our review of the similarly-spec'd Timeline 5810T suggests around eight hours of operation from a six cell battery. Acer's yet to confirm the finer details - including pricing and availability - but the Timeline 1810T looks set to hit the netbook sweet spot, and it's just in time for Windows 7, too.

Looks intresting, price could be the achilles heel.
nearly, nearly…………… :p

one day the holy grail of mini-notebooks will arrive, but is not today.
How come all of a sudden ultra-portable notebooks are all called Netbooks.
Depends on 3 things, price, weight and battery life… if all of those things are good, then I'd be tempted…
OT but why the hell wasnt a low power Core 2 on the cards to start with rather than flood the mrket with this Atom crap.
