We haven't seen a new SSD emerge from PNY Technologies since back in 2007, but the French manufacturer reckons now is the right time to launch a new range of products that offer "the best in terms of both performance and pricing".

Hence the introduction of its Optima High Speed SSD, available in both 128GB and 256GB capacities, priced at £309.99 and £599.99, respectively.

The 2.5in MLC-based drives are said to feature "high-quality Flash memory" and, though there's no mention of which controller is uses, claim impressive read and write speeds of 220Mb/s and 200Mb/s, respectively. On paper, that's promising very decent performance, and £310 for the 128GB drive is quite competitive.

PNY tells us the drives will be available later this month, and they'll be backed by a three year warranty.
