Remember the Corsair chassis that HEXUS covered at CeBIT? If not, head on over to our first-look and breaking-news pieces from the show.

Well, here's the chassis, anyway.

Corsair has now officially launched the chassis and given it a name. Dubbed Obsidian Series 800D and currently the only model in the range, we like the overall look and feel, judging by the pre-production version we saw at CeBIT.

Decent cable management; hot-swap SATA; tool-free design; high-quality finish, roomy interior, and good looks are some of the positive points, but the all-important price would determine if, prima facie, it offered decent value.

According to the PR bumf, the "Corsair Obsidian Series 800D chassis will be available in stores in early July at an estimated price of US $299, and is backed by a two-year limited warranty. Complete customer support via telephone, email, forum and Tech Support Express is also available." That, folks, would equate to around £230, including VAT, if the exchange rate remains at roughly $1.6.

The Obsidian 800D will need to beat the very best chassis from the likes of Cooler Master, Lian Li, Antec, and SilverStone, then. We'll be putting a full-production model through its paces shortly, so stay tuned for that.

Looks like it officially still can't mount SSDs without use of an adaptor. Odd coming from a company trying to sell SSDs.
I don't see why that is a problem. I would rather have 3.5“ bays than 2.5”s. Unless they are squeezing in a couple of 2.5“s in a case that already has the normal number of 3.5”s.

An adapter is only a few pounds anyway.

If you are happy with adapters then why aren't you arguing for no 3.5 bays and let's stick with 5.25"s?

I'd rather have things slot in the case from the start without needing adaptors. I'm sure these ultra expensive cases can find somewhere to put them without reducing the number of 3.5s.
£230. I just spent about £130 on my cm stacker and I thought that was really expensive!
finally some more info, although incredibly expensive, there seems to be no other good looking good designed cases (for me) i dont like the look of lian-li sadly,

the tj-07's iirc are still 200…

hopefully it will be sub £200 when the case is released £230 is phenomenal!
