Apple seems to be going from strength to strength despite the tech industry, as a whole, feeling the pinch of the recession. On the back of  Q2 2009 revenue of  $8.16bn and net profit of $1.12bn, bolstered by the sale of 11m iPods and 3.79m iPhones, Apple has now announced that it's doled out over a billion downloads from The App Store - which sells and distributes (free) software for the iPhone and iPod Touch, written via the SDK kit - in just nine months.

The billionth app was downloaded yesterday from the store with around 35,000 programs, according to reports, and it's an area that could generate some serious income for Apple in the future.

Apple, however, has had to apologise for some of the software content that users can download, including the notorious Baby Shaker application.

Have you paid for any downloads for your iPhone or iPod Touch. Which was the best one?
