Samsung's N110 netbook, unveiled last week as the successor to the popular NC10, is now available to pre-order in the U.S. at a cost of around $450 (£318).

The system, pictured above, sports a six-cell battery that claims to offer over nine hours of on-the-go operation. However, despite the useful estimated mileage on a single charge, the system features the age-old combination of a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor and 945GSE chipset.

It's a nice enough netbook, but its failing, we reckon, is pricing. For example, the Eee PC 1000HE from ASUS features the newer 1.66Ghz Intel Atom N280 and GN40 chipset - along with the promise of 9.5 hours battery life, too - and that can currently be had for $389 (£275) from Amazon.com.

Whilst Samsung's N110 is, in our opinion, the better looking of the two and a little lighter in weight, its key components are looking dated when compared to the direct competition, and the $60 premium is hard to justify.

Looks like a serious machine, like the Q range. I guess if it's a 10“ you are looking for it could be the one, but nothing for owners of other laptops or netbooks to get too excited about…

In an ideal world they would have waited and released that with a 2.0GHZ atom, available in both 10” and 12" with a better GPU than what is currently in 95% of netbooks.
Yeah, I think the Samsungs are the best netbooks at the moment, but I remember the nc-10's price was adjusted quickly after launch and reckon the same will happen here. Will be good to see one in the flesh as to speak!

I'm pretty sure it's like all the recent releases and has the N270 or N280 paired with the 945GSE chipset.

No matter, I agree with Parm that all of these ‘updated’ 10.2" Netbooks are getting way too pricey and it's making the cheap(er) full size laptops seem like a viable option despite their obvious size/weight handicap.
The new 1000HE was rummered to be the new intel GN40 however looks like it's still on the 945GSE for now.

How much longer are we going to have to wait for a chipset to replace the ageing 945 to actually be released?

EDIT: The only really major change in both the asus and samsung is replaceing the Lithium-ion battery for the newer better Lithium-Polymer battery.
All you'd need would be a 6cell Lithium-Polymer battery for your nc10 or 1000h and there you go 9ish hours of battery.
The new battery technology is probably what's pushed up the price as well.
