The Dell Adamo notebook - announced last week following months of speculation - is now available to order for Dell's UK customers.

As part of Dell's all-new premium brand, the system, pictured below, offers a statement of style that demands an asking price of £1,649 - rising to £2,229 for a mildly quicker model.

Available in Onyx or Pearl (pictured) designs, the Adamo notebook appears to have gathered a mixed response from would-be buyers. Here at HEXUS, we reckon it's a sexy piece of kit that, although underpowered, should appeal to those blissfully unaware of the global recession.

HEXUS.community members, however, don't share that opinion. Following the system's long-awaited unveiling last week, HEXUS reader Breezey stated "I can't believe we waited this long for this", prompting others to state they'd rather pay the premium for a MacBook. Ouch.

Something of a love it or hate it notebook, it seems, but if you're in the former category, the system can be configured in two options:

  • ADMIRE, the base model priced from £1,649, features a 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 128GB solid-state drive and Microsoft's 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium operating system.
  • DESIRE, an upgraded model priced from £2,249, features a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 128GB solid-state drive, Microsoft's 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium operating system, and support for mobile broadband.

Both feature 13.4in 720p displays, back-lit scalloped keyboards, and measure just 16.39mm thick - allowing Dell to claim Adamo to be the world's thinnest notebook. So, any takers?

No kidding. I don't even find it impressive or attractive in any way. Never mind the fact you could get two fully-featured VAIOs for that price.
I think you're missing the point people.

You don't buy this if your budget is £500 or you want to use it to transcode 1080 mkvs.

You buy it as a second PC for travelling - a 1.2GHz dual core is plenty fast enough for what these PCs will be doing for 99% of the time.

I've got a Sony TZ (also 1.2GHz but much older Intel GFX) and it does me fine as my travlling PC - I've got a system at home to do all the heavy duty stuff.
Again, hope the battery is good, because it's non-removable.
