For the majority of consumers - myself included - a 1,200W power supply might be deemed nothing more than ludicrous. For the minority of enthusiasts, however, it's a dream that BFG's hoping to fulfil with its EX-1200.

The EX-1200 modular power supply, pictured above, features four 12V rails and will deliver enough juice to keep most extreme systems well fed, with ample power to spare.

The unit measures 15cm x 8.6cm x 16.5cm and is rated at 1,200W continuous at 40°C. As with most ultra-high-power units, it's likely to be met by users concerned about their electricity bills - hence the inclusion of what BFG calls its "exclusive Frequency Conversion Technology". According to BFG, the aforementioned will allow the EX-1200 to emulate any size power supply and consequently deliver at least 80 per cent efficiency whether you're playing Crysis or Solitaire.

On top of that, it's equipped with a separate +5VSB rail, too, ensuring efficiency remains decent when powered down or in standby. Granted, it's still an over-the-top package for most, but if you're looking for something a little extreme, BFG's EX-1200 will be hitting etailers later today priced at around $250.

In the meantime, here's BFG's official specification:

/me snores.

More of the same. We need better value, lower drawing PSUs, higher quality PSUs. Not more PSUs which need to be tethered to a fission generator to work.Quote
