Super Talent seems to be on a quest to deliver the quickest SSDs available. Following its third-generation MasterDrive series back in late 2008, it's now upping the ante with the launch of its fifth-generation range; UltraDrive.

Shipping today, the UltraDrive series will be available in two forms - the MLC-based UltraDrive ME, and the SLC-based UltraDrive LE - the latter of which will be aimed squarely at the enterprise market.

For the home user, the UltraDrive ME will be available in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities, and offers maximum sequential read and write speeds of 200MB/s and 160MB/s, respectively.

The quicker UltraDrive LE series, available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities, will offer a blistering maximum sequential read speed of 230MB/s and a maximum sequential write speed of 170MB/s.

According to Super Talent's internal testing, an UltraDrive can boost the boot time of Microsoft's Windows XP operating system by up to 68 per cent. Mighty tempting, but the ME series still carries a price tag of $128 for the minuscule 32GB model, rising all the way to $645 for the 256GB offering. That's a fraction cheaper than the launch price of the preceding MasterDrive range, but still out of reach for most consumers.
