Having served up the world's first 2TB hard drive a little under a month ago, Western Digital has now packaged its gargantuan Caviar Green drive as an external My Book.

The latest addition to Western Digital's range of external network storage options, dubbed My Book World Edition, will be available in 1TB and 2TB capacities, and will be compatible with both PC and Mac systems.

The drives feature Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, and retain the ability to act as media servers for DLNA-compliant devices. An on-board USB port allows for further expansion via an additional USB drive, and automated backups are available to those seeking peace of mind. Think of it as a simplified NAS for the home user.

Western Digital's 1TB offering is available now priced at £168.99, and the larger 2TB option is expected later this month with an MSRP of £369.99.
