email to a friendRemember GlacialTech's space-age prototype UFO V51 CPU cooler? It was on show back at COMPUTEX 2008 and looked like something of a monster.
Since then, it's been through a number of refinements and is now ready for retail in its final guise:
The somewhat subdued cooler seems to have lost most of its UFO-inspiration, but it's still packing a selection of useful ingredients - including four heatpipes, a pair of 92mm ultra-silent fans, a pure copper base, plenty of aluminium fins and a plastic enclosure keeping it all in place.
It supports AMD sockets 754, 939, 940 and AM2, and supports Intel LGA 775 and LGA1336 - it has Core i7 covered, in other words.
The cooler measures 130mm x 157mm x 138mm and weighs 780g. It's available in two models, the first is a UFO V51 Silent that keeps fan speed at 1,600rpm and noise levels at 19dBA per fan. The second, a UFO V51 PWM, will adjust fan speed accordingly between 800rpm and 2,500rpm, creating up to an overly-loud 32dBA of noise per fan.
No news on actual cooling performance or pricing, but we can expect it to arrival at retail very soon.
