Introduction

Tosh01

HEXUS recently looked at the range of laptop options for under £500 and found that surprising power could be had for a reasonable budget. The question then was why would anyone spend more than £500?

Spending more gets you more, obviously, and that's manifested in better overall performance. You should expect a discrete graphics card for proper gaming performance, lots of RAM, and a nicer screen to boot.

Toshiba's Satellite laptop - the workhorse of the overall range -  covers a wide pricing spectrum, and spending around £600 will provide a decent spec.

How does an AMD Turion X2 Ultra 2.1GHz, 4GB RAM, 15.4in WXGA+ screen, discrete Mobility Radeon HD 3650 512MB graphics card sound? These are the features that make up the guts of the Toshiba Satellite A300D-15B, priced at £622, and we take a look to determine whether it's worth it.
