Hot on the heels of Tranquil PC's dual-core Atom-based nettop, we've got another on offer from Milan-based Abaco Computers.
The simply-named Dual Desktop, pictured below, features Intel's yet-to-be-announced 1.6GHz dual-core Atom 330 processor and is available for pre-order with an expected shipping date of September 19th 2008.
The Dual Desktop features 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 250GB 7,200rpm hard-disk drive, a DVD writer, onboard Intel GMA 950 graphics, and Ubuntu Linux as its operating system.
Measuring just 20cm x 10cm x 27cm, it really is a tiny nettop. It does, however, manage to squeeze in an Ethernet port, six USB ports (two on the front, four on the rear), parallel and serial ports, and VGA out. Due to its size, the Dual Desktop utilises an external 80W power pack measuring 3cm x 6cm x 12cm.
The system costs €349 (£275) and ships with a two-year warranty. It's a tidy little solution, and one of many dual-core nettops that we'll be seeing in the coming months. Should Intel's dual-core Atom 330 processor be able to handle full-HD video, we could be looking at plenty of small, lightweight, sufficient and low-cost systems in the very near future.
