It has been a long time coming, but Thecus has today launched its N4100Pro NAS solution, successor to its ageing N4100.
The AMD-based device features a Geode LX800 processor and 256MB of DDR400 memory. Adding to the all-round upgrade is a built-in LCD, a handful of new RAID options, and plenty of performance improvements - enough to double the transfer speed of the original N4100, says Thecus.
The N4100Pro features four 3.5in SATA bays allowing for up to 4TB of storage, and users can utilise RAID 0,1,5,6,10 and JBOD. On the reliability front, the N4100Pro features two rear-mounted Gigabit Ethernet ports - should one fail, it'll automatically switch to the second.
As you'd expect, the device provides the majority of Thecus' NAS features, such as the ability to act as a media server, BitTorrent download manager, or home surveillance unit.
Florence Shih, general manager of Thecus, said:
We created the N4100 PRO with speed and total security in mind. With new features, increased reliability, and enhanced performance, users will discover that the N4100 PRO is a more than worthy successor for the four-bay N4100 that started it all.
