Introduction

Force01

With both NVIDIA and AMD recently unveiling their new-generation graphics series, in the GeForce GTX 268/280 and AMD Radeon HD 4850/4870, respectively, as well as NVIDIA's repositioning of the GeForce 9800 GTX and recently-introduced GeForce 9800 GTX+ to a lower price-point, there's never been as much choice for consumers in the high-end sphere, with virtually every conceivable price-point covered.

With such intense competition, small differences in pricing, or a little increase in performance, could quite easily sway a consumer's purchasing decision.

Today we're going to be looking at a Radeon HD 4870 512MB card from a new player in the graphics-card market, Force3D. Married to this, we'll see if the recently released Catalyst 8.7 driver offers any performance increases over Catalyst 8.6.
