If you splashed out on NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 200 series graphics cards soon after their launch this time last month, your heart probably sank a little when NVIDIA then began slashing prices across the board.

Fortunately, one particular manufacturer has generously - and surprisingly - decided to ease your pain. XFX, the California-based manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, is offering up to $120 cash back to customers who purchased an applicable XFX GeForce GTX 280 or GeForce GTX 260 graphics card between June 16th 2008 and July 11th 2008.

The exact amount of cash back varies depending on which particular XFX card your purchased, and when the purchase was made. Nonetheless, it's very reassuring to see a manufacturer offering such a reward for its customers. Hats off to XFX, you don't see this everyday.

XFX's official statement reads:

Technological advancements are the direct result of you: the tech-loving consumer who can't wait to get the latest and greatest. And, here at XFX, we're dedicated to providing you with the quality products that keep you satisfied.

To that end, we're offering up to $120 CASH BACK to customers who purchased an applicable XFX GeForce GTX 280 or GeForce GTX 260 graphics card between June 16, 2008 and July 11, 2008. The actual amount of cash back will be determined based on the model purchased, as well as the date and price of the purchase.

It's a very generous thought, but there's one slight catch; as far as we can tell, the cash-back reward is applicable to US customers only.

If it applies to you, head on over to the official cash back website at xfxforce.com and let us know how you get on in the HEXUS.community forums.

*Update* HEXUS.community member, kalniel, has pointed out that EVGA have a near-identical GTX 280/260 reimbursement program available here.

EVGA are doing the same I think.
BFG are doing the same and as with the others its only available to the US & Canada.

So we in Europe who already pay more for our hardware get shafted once again.
Very encouraging to see manufacturers siding with the consumer on this one - must be pretty embarassing for nVidia though…

Lets hope this signals the beginning of the end for ludicrous launch day prices!

Yeah right….
They are only doing it as American's started to sue the companies, so seemingly it's not out of the good of the company's heart.

True words. Companies don't have a heart.

I'm not sure why people need to be repaid. If you buy something as an early adopter, you can't really complain – well OK, complain yes, but not demand anything – when the market pushes the prices lower afterwards.

If anything, this shows how important it is that there's competition.
