Taiwanese NAS specialist, Synology, has launched three NAS devices targeted at the corporate market.
The devices, Disk Station DS508 and Rack Station RS408/RS408-RP, aim to elevate Synology on the corporate NAS map, having focused more on consumer orientated devices in the past.
First up, the Disk Station DS508 (pictured below), provides five hot-swappable disk trays - supporting up to five 1TiB disk drives. It measures just 20cm x 18cm x 24cm, and Synology tells us its size makes it stylish and compact - ideal for "small business and corporate users who demand high performance and large capacity but require work space savings."
Synology's new Rack Stations, the RS408 and RS408-RP, provide four hot-swappable disk drays and are aimed at "IT professionals in small businesses and corporations whose needs for security and flexibility were not fulfilled by simple networked storage". The latter RS408-RP comes with a redundant power supply, providing that extra bit of piece of mind for critical data.
Synology's in-house statistics state that, when running in RAID 5, all three models provide Windows-based read and write speeds of 45MiB/s and 30MiB/s, respectively. All three models support up to 1TiB hard drives and provide two Gigabit LAN ports, an 800MHz CPU and 512MiB RAM.
