Ever had the need for server-calibre capabilities on the go? Well, thanks to Eurocom, a developer of high-performance notebooks, that need has been fulfilled with the D901C PHANTOM-X.

This particular notebook, dubbed a "mobile server", is powered by a 2.84GHz quad-core Xeon X3360 CPU and carries 1.5Terabytes of storage in the form of three RAID-configured SATA hard drives. There's up to 8GiB of DDR2 memory, Gigabit Ethernet, a 17in LCD display and built-in UPS.

However, all this server-class performance comes at a literally heavy cost, the PHANTOM-X weighs some 12 pounds. It measures 15.8 x 11.9 x 2.05in and has a quoted battery life of just one hour. No pricing has yet been announced, but you can rest assured that it'll cost an arm and a leg.

Mark Bialic, President of Eurocom, said:

"It's a server-calibre computer complete with Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) in a 12pounds notebook form factor. This is one extremely fast notebook that offers server on-the-go capabilities.

Why would you want that?
Perfect for field work, or army/navy/air force?

EDIT - a UPS? You mean, a battery. Most laptops have them…;)
Heehee nice one dave :)

Can we call this a “portable” rather than a laptop? I fear it would break your legs when resting on your lap.
People need to move PCs around all the time, we have some rack mounted PCs used for events and such.

A beast in a non beast size box would be perfect.

Hmmmm maybe I'm not one to judge, my two main PCs are both laptops on opposite scales. One a Dell M90 17" and the other an OQO e2. It's big cool little cook!
