Taiwan-based designer and manufacturer of connectivity solutions, ATEN, holds no less than three decades of experience and is no stranger to KVM switches.

It's latest offering, the CS1782 KVMP (keyboard, video, mouse, peripheral) switch, is designed specifically for the SOHO environment and focuses on audio and video-based applications. The two-port dual-link DVI KVMP switch is fully compliant with the DVI-Digital and DVI-Analogue specification, and supports USB 2.0 as well as 7.1 surround sound.

The switch will allow users to share a dual-link DVI display, USB keyboard, mouse and surround sound system between two computers. It provides full widescreen support for resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 and audio support with full bass response. In addition, the KVM, USB and audio focus can be switched independently, allowing users to listen to sound files from one computer whilst working on another.

Kevin Chen, president of ATEN International, comments:

"Display technology is continuously improving video display resolution standards. With innovative products such as the CS1782 KVMP switch, we are keeping pace with the ultra-high video resolutions available today, providing power users in demanding home and small office environments with a truly versatile solution that offers USB 2.0 and the latest 7.1 audio surround sound on top!"

The two integrated USB ports will allow users to connect USB printers, digital cameras, flash drives or other USB devices. Last but not least, the CS1782 KVMP switch is fully compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, Mac OS X and Sun.

Here at HEXUS, we've been on the lookout for a device similar to this for use in our labs. Maybe we're not looking hard enough, but we've not been able to find one, until now.

The CS1782 KVMP switch is available now at an MSRP of £100.99.

You haven't been looking very hard. Avocent Switchview DVI has been around for a few years now It's been successfully switching DVI at 1920x1200 for eighteen months plus in my house.
I wish they are prices slightly lower, and may be include dual monitor support :P
