Introduction

Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2 Laptop Review

There was once a time, not long ago, when there was a clear performance divide between laptops and their desktop counterparts. That divide has been shrinking over the last few years, thanks to potent mobile CPUs, huge screens, and, now, mobile GPUs that are as fast as decent desktop parts. You have to pay the price, notably in cost and form factor, but there's an undeniable appeal of mobile gaming that puts most users' PCs to shame.

Dell tried to get into the all-singing, all-dancing gaming laptop scene with its Inspiron XPS model. It packed a punch but it also packed a lot of heat. Battery life, whilst not the most important criteria for a DTR laptop, was, well, laughable. However, Dell's learned a thing or two about top-end desktop replacements recently, and it's now back with a Generation 2 model. Is it just a case of adding a suffix and scant little else, or is the Gen 2 the DTR all you deep-walleted enthusiasts have secretly been hankering after? Let's find out.
