N3200M aiming for a place in your home theatre

Thecus' latest storage solution, geared toward the home theatre enthusiast, is the all-new N3200M. Featuring AMD technology, it plans on delivering a complete media and storage solution. Based on AMD's Geode processor, the N3200M can be used to centrally store, manage, access and enjoy movie and music files.

Thecus claims that the N3200M is currently the only 3-bay NAS device with home theatre video and audio sharing functionality. The device supports RAID 5 and provides wireless capability to allow users the ability to enjoy their media throughout the home. For the security conscious, the N3200M also supports USB webcams, just so you can keep an eye on what's happening in your house.

Buddy Broeker, director of AMD’s Embedded Computing Solutions Division said:

"The feature-rich Thecus N3200M combines innovative design and the low-power, high-performance of the AMD Geode processor to deliver a robust centralised home media storage solution."

"The N3200M offers a compelling solution for households to easily store and share their digital media throughout the home network."

As you'd expect, the N3200M includes support for most of today's media formats. For video playback, the N3200M supports WMV9, WMVHD, AVI, MPG, VOB, and MP4 up to a resolution of 1080p. In terms of audio, the device will support MP3, WMA, AAC, PCM, and M4A formats.

No confirmed release date or pricing just yet, but expect those to be revealed at CeBIT next week.

A NAS box which also plays back the media?

Much as I love NAS boxes, will you want a noisy (?) NAS box next to your TV?
Much as I love NAS boxes, great for downloading with PC off but this isn't a low power downloader as 4 drives and a Geode use a reasonable amount of power.

I call Jack of All Trades but Master of None.

Ok maybe I am being harsh but I have a Linkstation Live which downloads beautifully and is on 24/7 as a web server etc etc… uses 14W (ie very little). I have a low power MG35 networked mediaplayer which needs no HD and streams from the Linkstation. That means ONLY when I watch video or listen to audio do I add maybe another 6W to my power bill.

I wonder what this uses power wise? I hope the Hexus review addresses that. I'd be happy to do a review if Tarinder replies to the emails this time ;)
