Telford, England, 27th February, 2008- GETAC Inc., a leading, specialist rugged mobile computer manufacturer, has today unveiled details of the new E100, a lightweight rugged tablet specifically designed for field workers that need to cut the burden of their carry load and to allow them to take data on the move with complete peace of mind.

The E100 is the lightest fully rugged tablet currently available on the market. At only 1.4kg the E100 is the ideal mobile solution for those that rely on having their data with them in the field. The E100’s Li-ION battery provides up to 5 hours battery life and a secondary battery option can extend battery life ever further. It features a magnesium alloy case that not only contributes to the overall low weight of the E100 but is also durable and protective.

For further protection the E100 features a shock-mounted HDD to ensure vibration and shock resistance and is equipped with a G-Sensor to protect data from sudden drops. For use in harsh weather conditions and to prevent damage from accidents the E100 complies to MIL-STD-810F and is IP-54 compliant. Sealed I/O caps and doors are in place to prevent solid particles and moisture such as dust, rain and spillages from entering the unit ensuring the E100 always remains operable, avoiding unnecessary down time and contributing to a lower cost of ownership with prevention of field damage that can often occur.

The E100’s 8.4” TFT SVGA display with touch screen functionality and GETAC’s proprietary anti-reflection technology makes data input hassle free, whilst the option of a Sunlight-Readable LCD display can be taken advantage of to ensure continuous use under bright ambient lighting conditions. The E100’s 800nits sunlight readable technology is among the top of its class and intensifies an LCD’s visibility to allow use in extremely bright outdoor environments.

When in the field, the ability to be able to stay in touch with the office or be able to log on to the internet is paramount. The E100 includes, as standard, Wireless 802.11b/g LAN connectivity and offers an array of further wireless connectivity facilities to ensure users always remain connected wherever they may be. Optional connectivity facilities include: Bluetooth V2.0 to allow secure connectivity with other Bluetooth devices and Wide Area Network technology (GPRD/EV-DO/HSDPA).

When taking data on the move it is also essential that provisions are in place to ensure peace of mind against theft. A Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2) or ‘Root-of-Trust’, a chain of trust procedures monitoring every step, from pre-boot to OS load, guards against unauthorised tampering from physical theft of software attack. The E100 also features Password Security options for supervisors/users which will lock the HDD if an unauthorised user attempts to enter the system (especially useful in the event of a theft).

The E100 also offers an array of expansion options for complete flexibility. These include a PC Card Type II slot and Smart Card among others. To explore available options or for further information users can visit www.getac.com.

The E100 will be showcased on the GETAC stand, Hall 25, stand B05 at CeBIT 2008 (Hannover, Germany, March 4th to March 9th). For further information on GETAC’s extensive rugged portfolio, which includes; Hand Held devices, Notebooks, Tablet PCs and more please visit www.getac.com.
