Could this be the daddy of all high power PSUs?

It's no secret that Corsair's HX Series of power supply units are just about as good as it gets. In our 2006 shootout of 600-700W PSUs, HEXUS' Paul Dutton deemed Corsair's HX620W power supply "the only product in our group test that would have had made me part with my hard-earned".

That's some pretty big praise and rightfully so, just about everyone has come to expect a lot from Corsair's HX series and it delivers in both 520W and 620W models.

But what about those who eat up power for breakfast? Well, not to worry, you wattage-munching enthusiasts will soon have a new HX to play with, the HX1000 and yep, that means 1000 watts of goodness.

Corsair HX1000

Other than its wattage, details so far are few and far between. It will feature modular cables, and we'll expect the stability and performance we've seen in the previous two HX PSUs but Corsair's official statement on the HX1000 simply reads:

"The HX1000W joins the family of well received HX Series Enthusiast Grade Power Supplies known for their rock solid stability, enhanced modular cable design and high efficiency. The Corsair HX1000W Power Supply sets a new standard by which all other high wattage power supplies will be judged."

Clearly, Corsair isn't shy in declaring the HX1000 the new grand-daddy. HEXUS will be on hand at CeBIT from March 4th - 9th and we'll be eager to get a closer look at Corsair's supposed latest-greatest.

No news on pricing just yet.

Call me silly, but didn't we see a big push this last year with ‘green’ computing.

People selling CPUs in Performance Per Whatt?

So Whatt the hell is this about?

Even an SLI watercooled dual quad core system wouldn't need 1kw of juice. Enless its a case of getting a horrifically overrated PSU so that it dosen't run too hot, thus needing the fan to cool it so much.
Think of it like cars, going green with hybrids or smaller cars is all the talk these days.

But, you still get the few with too much money driving around in 8 litre Ferrari's just for the sake of it.

In a similar sense, you'll get the few building PCs with 1000W PSUs…just for the sake of it.
Hmmm it's fairly clear that we are going down the road of multiple power-hungry GPUs, and they clearly need these stupidly powerful PSUs. I want a Corsair HX that is a bit more beefy than the 620W, which would power my system nicely but wouldn't give quite as much headroom as I would like. I defo wouldn't need 1000W though. My system draws 310W whilst playing Supreme Commander.
honestly, 1000W maybe way to much, but i am sure there is a market for it, and with the amazing HX seires going to the 1k then im guessing all other competitors now should cower in fear. If the HX series make a 850W and 400W, they will be the monoploy giants of PSUs.

Efficient PSUs generate less heat –> less heat in your case means better performance, more overclockability and longer life.
