It isn't a surprise that Vista Service Pack 1 is already available via not-too-legal methods such as BitTorrent. It is however a surprise that it has taken so long to leak!
When Vista SP1 was released to manufacturing this past Monday, February 4th, we expected it on BitTorrent hours later, not days. Are these pirates slacking in their old age?
Pirate Bay, one site which just so happens to provide links to the download, list the file size as 2.9GB in size and warn users that the download image "is a complete install of Windows Vista including SP1. So there will be no option to upgrade".
If you're really really eager to try Vista's SP1 for yourself, we doubt you'll have any trouble finding it online. Be warned however, Vista SP1 isn't available via Windows Update just yet for a reason; Microsoft found conflicts with some existing drivers.
Personally, I'm happy to wait whilst Microsoft tracks down and identifies the problematic drivers, it'll only be another month or so before it adds SP1 to the download centre on Microsoft.com. Even then, I'll see how users get on with SP1 in March and then contemplate the automatic update via Windows Update in mid-April.
If however you do decide to try Vista SP1 a little ahead of schedule, do please let us know how you fare in the HEXUS forums.

Is the OS that popular that people want to pirate it? MS must be doing something right, as it'll stop people defecting to competing products ;)
Its not really pirating it. Its going to be a free update. They are just releasing it a bit earlier. No harm done in my opinion. Still ****e though. No amount of updates are going to fix that.Quote
