Discrete wireless access point, looks like smoke alarm, ideal for the office

Q: What do you do if you want to provide wireless internet access to everyone in your office and deter people from smoking at the same time?

A: Install D-Link's new smoke-alarm-lookalike DWL-3260AP Wireless G Access Point.

D-Link DWL-3260AP

The DWL-3260AP, pictured above, is an indoor wireless access point aimed at users or businesses where discretion is paramount.

D-Link states that "Despite being distinctly styled to separate it from function-looking enterprise products, the DWL-3260AP’s design cleverly disguises it as a smoke detector, so as not to attract unwanted attention. The Access Point will particularly appeal to organisations keen to install Access Points that discretely fit in with the surrounding environment."

To truly make it invisible to the unsuspecting eye, you can even deactivate the LED diagnostic lights. If like other smoke alarms you want to hang the access point from the ceiling, don't worry, D-Link is one step ahead of you. The device features integrated 802.3af Power over Ethernet support and can obtain power from a PoE switch located as far away as 100 metres through network cable.

In terms of actual wireless speed, the DWL-3260AP will offer standard 802.11g wireless throughput rates of up to 54Mbps. The device will offer all the usual security features you'd come to expect; WPA, WPA2-Enterprise, 802.1X, MAC Address Filtering, Wireless LAN segmentation, Broadcast SSID disabled, and support for Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) data encryption.

If you really really want to hide your wireless network, and inadvertently make anybody nearby afraid to smoke, the DWL-3260AP can be yours now for a suggested retail price of £199.99 +VAT.

That's cause they're not smoke alarms, clearly they're wireless access points! :PQuote
