So much for Windows Ultimate Extras
Users of Windows Vista Ultimate will no doubt be aware that the term Ultimate is a little far fetched. The handful of Ultimate Extras currently available leaves a lot to be desired, and nobody seems to know if anything else will be delivered anytime soon.
The Ultimate Extras were once thought to be a replacement for Microsoft's previous means to bring enhancements to its operating systems, Microsoft Plus! Following the apparent failure of Windows Ultimate Extras however, it looks as though Windows Vista will get the Plus! treatment after all.
Plus! packs, as they became known, were first introduced in 1994 and rolled out throughout the next 10 years in the following editions:
- Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95
- Microsoft Plus! for Kids
- Microsoft Plus! for Windows 98
- Microsoft Plus! Game Pack: Cards & Puzzles
- Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP
- Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition
- Microsoft Plus! SuperPack for Windows XP
The Plus! packages generally offer a variety of enhancements varying from games, screensavers, desktop themes and can often carry media utilities too.
Discovered online today at FutureShop.ca is a new product listing titled "Microsoft Windows Vista Plus Pack (PC)". Though the title itself could simply be misunderstood, the product packaging surely can't.
The packaging makes the contents quite clear, this forthcoming Plus! Pack will simply feature four casual games for the Vista OS. HEXUS gaming guru, Steven Williamson, insists that one of the four games pictured on the cover is Luxor, a title currently available on Xbox Live Arcade. Take your guesses on what the other three may be.
As far as previous Plus! packs go, this isn't one to write home about it. According to FutureShop.ca, the Vista Plus! Pack will launch on February 15th '08 and retail at $39.99.
