Dual GPUs are so yesterday...

Why have two when you can have three? That's what NVIDIA is telling us with its 3-way SLI announced last week.

Not wanting to rest on its laurels, the California based graphics giant has today unveiled its NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI MCP, the first motherboard solution to support the aforementioned 3-way SLI technology.

Kelt Reeves, president of Falcon Northwest says in an official press release, "Our customers aren't going to bed with visions of sugar-plums dancing in their heads. They're dreaming of playing games like Crysis in their entire splendour, running on NVIDIA SLI technology."

"With nForce 780i and an Intel Yorkfield CPU under the hood, those visions will quickly become a reality. We're excited to offer our customers fully-equipped rigs with not one, not two, but three of NVIDIA's most extreme gaming GeForce graphics processors, the perfect platform for experiencing the most advanced games ever developed."

No real improvement on 680i and it use's the 570 southbridge and only a mention of support for 1,333MHz front side bus CPUs. So no 1600mhz support.
An active chipset fan jeeze its gonna be a hot one again.
Think I'll stick with Intel atm.
i think we will have wait until we get reports from enthusiasts at to weather this is any better than the 680.but to be truthful it looks like it more of an incremental step than an upgrade
I believe the next one from Nvidia is the one to have. The 780i uses an additional chip to provide PCI-E 2.0 support. This will probably add to its already large power consumption, and is the reason for the huge heatsink in the middle. It also takes up space that could be used for another PCI slot of some kind.

Add to that the 680i's issues with quad cores, four RAM modules and the latest high-fsb chips = no thanks. SLI is much better than Crossfire at present but it's just not worth it IMO.

Just out of curiousity…. 3 way sli must only GTX and Ultra.. not 8800GT and 8800GTS (pcie 2.0) ?? If that so then I aint going to spend whole lot of hellva money for those GTX and Ultra video cards

Pretty sure it's because you need to 2 SLI connectors on the cards for 3-way SLI, and it's only the GTX/Ultra that have that.
