Gee, that's a lot of memory

Memory is to computer enthusiasts what money is to business people, you can simply never have enough.

ASUS, being oh so aware of our desire for more memory, has unveiled its latest graphics card offering in the form of the EN8800GT 1GB. As you may have guessed, it comes equipped with no less than 1GB of Qimonda GDDR3 memory.

ASUS EN8800GT 1GB

In an official press release, C.P. Wu, General Manager of ASUS Graphics and Multimedia Business said "The ASUS EN8800GT/HTDP/1G is the first EN8800GT model in the world to leverage the Qimonda DRAM that comes equipped with 8pcs of 1GB GDDR3 graphics memory". Robert Feurle, Vice President of Business Unit Graphics at Qimonda added "We are glad that Qimonda could offer ASUS this ultimate memory solution, which enables us to offer this leading product for the graphic card market".

ASUS claim that "even a powerful GPU can suffer from bottlenecks due to slow and insufficient video memory, therefore memory size is very important". Memory size certainly does help but we'll be interested to see just how much of a performance boost is gained over the EN8800GT's 512mb sibling.

The 1GB EN8800GT card is scheduled for retail later this month or early January 2008 and in the meantime, you can view the complete specification:

Given the lack of difference between the 256mb and 512mb 8800GTs this won't be much more than a marketing stunt I'd imagine, just as with the HD2900XT. I'd be more interested in the 3rd-party cooler than the RAM, to be honest.

same, if the memory controller was 320-bit like gtx or higher than 256-bit it'd be beneficial too.
me three.

much rather have more powerful architecture than more than 512mb RAM.
