Signing NDA (non-disclosure agreements) with multinational companies is tantamount to signing your life away. Breach one abstruse clause and you're likely to find yourself in Bangkok Hilton, sharing a cell with Interpol's most wanted.

That's why we find it restrictive to publish any morsels from companies such as AMD, under threat as we are from punitive and draconian retribution of the highest order.

But isn't it just wonderful when a company actively promotes an NDA-embargoed product right on its international web site?

Well, head on over to here to learn about something that goes by the name of AMD Phenom. Download a bunch of utilities while you're at it, folks. They've been around since September, apparently.

Of course, we know nothing about such a native quad-core processor based on a monolithic design, Mr. AMD lawyer, for we'd rather not have a one-way flight to the luxurious environs that constitute the internal decor of the Bangkok Hilton.

Pass the soap, Sandhu!

wtf is a "processor driver"?

"Allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination to match the instantaneous user performance need."

Sounds like its a software under/overclocking facilityQuote

They had drivers for Althon64 CPUs too, was never sure what they actually did.

From that description it sounds like it's to enable features like cool 'n quiet, to downclock the processor when not under load.Quote

Generally, these drivers enabled support for idle down sleep states. There are other patches AMD has released too which fix some timing issues within their multicore implementation.

Intel generally 'patches' their processors through microcode in the BIOS... recently they allowed it to be done with a OS/software patch as I recall.Quote

Has anybody ever gone to jail for disclosing information about a processor?

ATI bottles Spider launch with canned benchmarks - The INQUIRER (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/11/14/ati-bottles-spider-launch)

AMD has been in lockdown mode over the past year or so... they have tightened up their NDA practices and how information about them is released.

Not sure about the above rumor, but this appears to be the new AMD.Quote

Its a contractual obligation so AMD's might sue for breach of contract with a probable remedy of financial damages. Not criminal so no Jail!Quote
