Mutual understanding

"Our status has changed to become an Opteron solution provider," said Quirk, explaining that the nature of the new relationship is essentially one of greater mutual collaboration. "We've got together to attack new vertical markets: security/surveillance, broadcast, hosting and digital signage."

Bell Micro positions itself as a distributor with an emphasis on the ‘value-add'. It has commercial, enterprise and industrial OEM divisions and, coincidentally, seems to operate more like the company recently joined by former AMD exec Giuseppe Amato - MSC - as exclusively revealed by HEXUS.channel yesterday, than a traditional broad-line distributor.

In that sense it may well use products from vendors that it doesn't distribute directly in the ‘solutions' it creates. "At the moment we're not a direct distributor; the relationship is with our industrial OEM division," explained Quirk.

"Prior to this we didn't have any relationship with AMD in EMEA. We're now much closer to AMD; they visit our customers with us and we do the same."

We hope that's now clarified the matter.
