Looking for niches

We noticed when researching Meroncourt that it appears to have a retail brand called PowerDrive Computers so we ask Walsh about this. "We used to have three retail shops but we closed the last of them, in Letchworth, last June." he says. "We've kept a website going but that's more for advertising products than anything else." It seems Meroncourt decided to focus on its core business.

A look at the PowerDrive site, or the more up to date Meroncourt trade site, reveals an apparent emphasis on gaming peripherals and networking gear. We ask Walsh how Meroncourt chooses which vendors to work with.

"We specialise in being the sole distributor of a brand in the UK," he says. "Our focus is on peripherals and accessories. Gaming and networking products have done very well for us. When we first started the business we sold indie retailers every kind of product. When we got involved with [gaming mouse maker] Razer about four years ago we learnt this was a high value niche that wasn't being too well serviced in the UK."
