Not all doom and gloom

Contrary to what you might hear from other parts of the media, recessions aren't necessarily a time of unrelenting gloom. People still have to live, work and earn and there is still plenty of business out there.

When Hertfordshire peripherals and accessories distributor Meroncourt told us it was continuing to beat its sales targets in spite of everything we thought we should find out why.

We meet commercial director Steve Walsh (pictured below) and started by asking him how business has been in the last six months. We've not really listened to the doom and gloom," he says.

"Some of our customers are feeling the pinch, e.g. smaller retailers that rely on footfall in the shop. However, the level of repairs they're getting is increasing and they then look to upsell accessories, etc."

"We beat all our sales targets last year. We've definitely seen it quieter since Christmas, but we've still been hitting our sales targets and the weather has probably affected this as much as anything else."
